Intro to Telluride
Nestled within southwest Colorado’s dramatic San Juan mountains, Telluride (elev. 8,793’) is known for its world-class alpine skiing, stunning landscapes, and vibrant summer festival season. The former silver-mining town lies in a box canyon surrounded on all three sides by 14,000 peaks offering a perfect environment for hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing, and other outdoor pursuits.
A century ago, Telluride was a rowdy, booming mining town of 5,000. Legend has it Telluride gets its name from a long-ago description of the difficult horseback journey required to reach the town: “to hell you ride.” Just eight blocks wide and twelve blocks long, the core area of Telluride was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964, one of only four in Colorado. Telluride is filled with colorful legends, more than a century of history, and spirited individualism. A free gondola, the only transportation system of its kind in North America, connects Telluride to the modern alpine resort town, Mountain Village.
It’s easy to be awe-struck among these red-rock canyons. Historic buildings, quaint bakeries, and local watering holes blend with luxury hotels, gourmet restaurants, and sophisticated shops. There is something unmistakably special in this beautiful town with a population of 2,300. The rugged charm of Telluride continues to capture those with a sense of adventure.
The airport staff make flying in to Telluride a breeze. Upon announcing your intentions to land, the FBO will ask how long your staying and if you need any services. After landing, a follow me cart will guide you to your parking space. Even more remarkable due to it's remoteness, the airport maintains competitive 100LL self serve prices in addition to it's full service offerings. Shuttle services are available on the airfield to take you in to town or rent a car from one of the two car agencies on field. Due to the limited ramp space, overnight parking can fill up quick, so call ahead on busy festival weekends. Hangar rentals are also available overnight if needed.

Bridal Veil Falls: From Telluride, drive to Pandora Mill to Bridal Veil Falls. 1.8
miles and 1,200 foot gain.
Ophir Pass: 12789 summit
Tomboy Road. 5 mile route to the historic town of Tomboy
Black Bear Pass: 3.6 mile jeep trail from Red Mountain Pass (US50 between
Silverton and Durango) One way road goes past Ingram falls and Bridal Veil
Falls. On the way down to Telluride.
Alta Lake: 1870’s mining town on the list of National Historic Register. 5
miles one way with a 1700’ elevation gain.
Biking:
Multiple mountain biking trails around town. Contact Telluride outside.
Favorite Hiking & Trails:
San Miguel River Trail: Leisurely walk that starts at the end of beginning of
town and ends at the town park. 2.75 miles one way.
Bear Creek Canyon: A four mile round trip hike from town to Bear Creek falls.
Views of jagged peaks, streams and waterfalls. Provides access to the
Wasatch trail .25 miles from the waterfalls. Accessed from the end of South
Pine Street.
Jud Wiebe Trail: 2.7 mile loop hike and 2,700’ elevation gain on the sunny
slope overlooking the town. Access from the end of Aspen street, turn left
and cross the bridge over Coronet creek.
Sneffels Highline Trail:
Challenging 13 mile backcountry trail with 3,600 elevation gain. Starts the
at the Jud Wiebe trail and at .5 miles that take the path to the left to
cross Butcher Creek. The the sign post, turn right and head North. The trail
continues to Pack basin, Mill Creek basin, and then to Mill Creek. Turn left at
the bridge to access the waterline trail and return to the Jud Wiebe trail to
get back to town.

Golfing: Telluride Golf Course. Perched high above Telluride at 9,500+ feet
above sea level, the Telluride Golf Club stretches for 6,574 yards through the
beautiful Town of Mountain Village. The Telluride Golf Course is open from
May 28th to October 3rd, offering its guests GPS equipped golf carts,
delicious Half-Way house, friendly service, and unbelievable views. Rumor is you
can hit the ball 15% further due to the altitude… but find out for yourself! Stats:
